Celebrating Love and Tradition: Mehndi and Haldi Celebrations in North Carolina

A few months ago, we had the pleasure of exploring the iconic Sarah P. Duke Gardens in Durham, NC, with Sarah and Aagam for their engagement photography session at Duke Gardens. After our fun double date-esque photo sesh, we were so thankful that they reached out and wanted us to capture their pre-wedding festivities in Burlington NC.

Vibrant Mehndi Celebration: Henna, Hugs, & Happiness

Aagam and Sarah’s Mehndi Ceremony took place on a warm, golden afternoon. The couple was surrounded by their closest family, friends, and the wedding party. The atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter, hugs, and dancing. Throughout the evening, Sarah’s bridesmaids, bridesmen, and many guests took turns getting mehndi while others ate delicious Indian food. We captured candid moments of guests dancing, chatting, and connecting, and wove those in between the larger group photos to tell the full story of the day. Our focus on capturing both posed portraits and spontaneous moments ensured that Aagam and Sarah will be able to relive the spirit of their Mehndi for years to come.

The Haldi Ceremony: A Celebration of Love and Tradition

The next morning, we were honored to be welcomed into Sarah and Aagam’s home for their Haldi ceremony. We made it a priority to document the pure emotions of the Haldi ceremony. From the playful smearing of haldi on the couple’s faces to the tender moments shared between family members, every shot was filled with love and tradition. We captured the essence of this joyous ritual, highlighting the moments that made Aagam and Sarah's Haldi uniquely their own…toothpaste, milk, and mayonnaise included! Hahah!!
